Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a National Level Entrance Test through which candidates can find admission into M. Tech./M.E./PhD Programmes in IITs, IISERs, IISc and other known Institutes of India. IISc and IITs are the responsible authorities that conduct this exam on rotational basis

GATE 2018 

Admissions to Postgraduate Programmes (Master's & Doctoral) with MHRD and other Govt. Scholarships/Assistantships in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science are open to those who qualify in GATE 


The GATE score is also used by some PSUs for their recruitment. GATE 2018 score will be valid for three years from the date of announcement of results. 

GATE 2018 Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) website is going to be live from 01st September 2017 and the exam will be held on 03rd - 04th & 10th - 11th February 2018 (Saturdays & Sundays) in online mode. 

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati - IIT Guwahati is the organizing Institute for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2018 (GATE 2018) 


Important Dates for GATE 2018

  • Commencement of Online Application Form: 01st September 2017
  • Last Date of Application Form Submission05th October 2017 extended to October 9, 2017
  • Last Date to request for change in examination city: 17th November 2017
  • GATE 2018 Admit Card Availability: 05th January 2018
  • GATE 2018 Exam Date: February 03, 04, 10 & 11, 2018 (Saturdays & Sundays)
  • Answer Key Released On: Within a few days after examination
  • Announcement of GATE 2018 Results on the Online Application Website: 17th March 2018
  • Downloading of Score Card Begins: Last week of March 2018 to Last week of May 2018
  • Counselling Commence: Second week of April 2018


GATE 2018 Registration - How to Apply ? 

Interested candidates can go through the eligibility criteria of GATE and then fill the online application form. Scanned copy of photograph and signature has to be uploaded, and application fee can be paid online or by Challan (if applicable). A period of around one month is given to complete the process 


GATE 2018 Registration Process involves the following steps: 

i. Read the application form of GATE 2018 at the official website 

ii. Enter details asked in the GATE 2018 registration form such as name, date of birth, email ID and Mobile Number 

iii. Next step for filling the GATE 2018 application form is to upload photograph, signature and  other documents 

iv. Pay the Application Fee as suitable to the category to the category, which complete form submission. 


Application Fee 

The application fee has to be paid ONLINE. The fee details are as follows: 


For Centres in India 

i. Female Candidates - Rs.750/- 

ii. SC/ST/PwD Category Candidates - Rs.750/- 

iii. All other candidates Rs.1500/- 


For Centres Abroad 


i. Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka, and Kathmandu: US$ 50 

ii.  Dubai and Singapore: US$ 100 


Payments would have to be made through online by using net banking or debit card or e-Challan facilities 

Additional charges will be applicable as per the rule of the bank from where the money is being transferred. This charge will be specified on the payment portal.


GATE 2018 Eligibility Criteria 

The following candidates are eligible to appear in GATE 2018: 

Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc./Diploma in Engineering/Technology) and those who are in the final year of such programs 

Bachelor’s degree holders in Architecture (Five years course) and those who are in the final year of such programs 

Bachelor’s degree holders of Four-year program in Science (B.S.) and those who are in the final year of such programs 

Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs 

Holders of Four-year Integrated Master’s degree (Post B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology and those who are in the second or higher year of such programs 

Holders of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree in Engineering/Technology and those who are in the fourth or higher year of such programs 

Holders of Five-year integrated M.Sc. or Five-year integrated B.Sc. /M.Sc. degree and those who are in the final year of such programmes 

Candidates with qualifications obtained through exams conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE/MHRD as equivalent to BE/B. Tech; those who have completed Section A of AMIE or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible 


GATE 2018 Pattern 

It is obligatory to have a look on the exam pattern before the actual examination. The GATE 2018 Paper Pattern helps the applicant to know the duration of exam, mode and marking scheme for the same. 

i. The exam will be held in the online mode. 

ii. The questions in the examination will be MCQs and Numerical questions. 

iii. No negative marking for numerical questions 

iv. Examination for all the papers shall be conducted in online mode only (Computer Based Test)
